Rolls-Royce – Defence

Pioneering the power to protect our planet, secure our world, explore the universe.

We’re pioneering the power that matters

Maybe you’re completing school or college, or maybe you’re already in the world of work and looking for a change of career. Whatever the case, our apprenticeships span the breadth of our engineering and business disciplines.

Our apprenticeships are for those who have, or are about to complete, GCSEs (or an equivalent qualification). They focus on developing practical skills such as fitting, welding or maintenance. Whichever programme you join, you’ll be working on live projects that are helping to shape the world we live in. You’ll earn as you learn through formal training as well as practical experiences, working alongside technical or business experts. We pioneer cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet our planet’s vital energy needs. We believe in the transforming potential of technology to protect our planet, secure our world and explore our universe. That’s why we’re helping lead the way in the transition to a net zero-carbon future for us all. We’re one of the world’s leading industrial technology companies, and it’s all thanks to our people. They’re the reason we’ve created a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment where you can do your best work and feel like you belong. Being your best shouldn’t come at the expense of being yourself. That’s why we’ve created an environment where everyone is heard, respected and valued. It’s a fundamental part of who we are. We’re taking deliberate action to increase the diversity of our teams through policies and practices that celebrate the thoughts, experiences and qualities which make us all unique.

Testimonials

  • The hands-on learning and real working of the apprenticeship has made me thrive

Diagnosed with dyslexia at school, I thought I wasn’t good at school. But joining the Rolls-Royce apprenticeship, I now know that classroom learning just isn’t for me. The hands-on learning and real working of the apprenticeship has made me thrive – I’m achieving distinctions!
  • I’m amazed at the different things we do

I’m amazed at the different things we do. We’re developing nuclear power solutions for space, hybrid electric and our journey to a sustainable future – we are doing an incredible amount in this space. The more you dive in, the more you think wow about the industries we work with.
  • I’ve got 3 years’ work experience, a degree, and no university debt

I’ve got 3 years’ work experience, a degree, and no university debt. Originally my friends didn’t understand why I decided to go down this route, but now every single one of them have said they wish they’d done what I have. So yes, I feel a little bit smug!
I’ve always liked STEM subjects, at college I picked maths, chemistry, biology for A level. I knew I wanted a get a degree and with Rolls-Royce paying for my studies, I’ve now got a BSC in Project Management and 3 years’ work experience with Rolls-Royce, which is great. I’ve had such a positive experience here. There is a big focus on diversity and inclusion and there are lots of resource groups for women that help to empower us and drive equality in the workplace. My cohort was 50/50 women and men and people are from all sorts of different backgrounds.

We pursue Collaboration: We work together to solve the world’s biggest technological challenges. Being able to collaborate and to value a diverse workforce is a huge strength. Our products have a profound impact on the world – we need to test every element against different views and perspectives. We always seek Simplicity: Clarity and focus are fundamental qualities to innovation and pioneering design. By removing the complex, we embrace new ways of working and radical thinking. It’s how all our people work – wherever they are and whatever role they play.
