Yorkshire and The Humber

Yorkshire and The Humber comprises most of Yorkshire plus parts of Lincolnshire. Its main cities include Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, and York. Known as ‘God’s own country’, people here are fiercely proud of their roots, as they are of their tea – and they will stand their ground on it. Yorkshire has an excellent literary heritage: Sylvia Plath, JRR Tolkien, and the Brontë sisters all have links here. Navigate the rugged yet beautiful, Shire-esque Dales, and try not to be inspired. Afterwards, warm up with a roast dinner, complete with a proper Yorkshire pudding. But it’s not all countryside. Leeds is called the ‘Knightsbridge of the North’ for its shopping, while Hull was bestowed the title, ‘UK City of Culture’.
